hace meses que no hay entradas en esta bitácora. es porque ya terminó el itinerario que se esperaba recorrer.

hoy comento una de esas hebras sueltas que quedan después de los proyectos que se han cerrado a pesar de lo que uno quisiera: la entrega de los 100 catálogos que los gestores del programa Disonancias nos dieron para repartir entre los agentes implicados.

el reparto está siendo entre los colaboradores, los que están en puestos de toma de decisión (para participar en otra posible convocatoria) y un pequeño resto para otros interesados, según esta lista:

¿Porqué escogí este libro?

De nuevo el título me sugería acción, relación y participación. Me he dedicado en numerosas ocasiones a facilitar la comunicación en situaciones de conflicto entre personas ayudando primero a los individuos a salir de la tiranía de su visión aislada de las circustancias y después a llegar a la visión del otro mediante el diálogo, la empatía y la reconciliación. He reencontrado todo esto en este libro, rodeado de citas empresariales y comentarios etimológicos, empeñado en demostrar la posibilidad y la bondad de todo esto sin mencionar la fe ni la existencia de una bondad común superior a la colectiva. Esto implica hacer unas cabriolas mentales y unas suposiciones éticas que a mi me resultan mucho más fáciles de entender y explicar admitiendo la posibilidad de creer que podemos hacer el bien, más allá de heroicidades éticas. Por todo ello me ha dejado un poco cansado este libro, que yo resumiría a una décima parte y titularía "Antropología empresarial básica para dialogar".

¿De qué trata este libro?

Trata de cómo se hablan los problemas empresariales entre los que lideran y los que acarrean la empresa. Habla de tres tipos de lenguaje: el del los significados, conceptos y contextos; el de las emociones, la estética y el ritmo de las conversaciones; y el del poder de nuestros actos. Invita a las personas a ser coherentes con lo que piensan, dicen y hacen; a crear estructuras de interacción flexibles y fluidas; y a proveer espacios físicos dedicados al diálogo y el encuentro cómodo y cercano entre las personas. Propone ejercitar la suspensión del pensamiento único, escuchando al otro sin resistencia, desidentificandole de sus palabras, optando por un diálogo reflectivo capaz de explorar de la mano del otro las razones, las asunciones y los recuerdos subyacentes a las palabras de cada uno para ir profundizando en las preguntas y enmarcando los problemas. También recuerda los básicos de expresarse en primera persona, de modo concreto y con valentía. Al final sugiere herramientas y posibilidades de dialogo creativo, capaz de inventar posibles soluciones sin precedentes y nuevas visiones que fluyen hacia y con todos los participantes en el diálogo. Para todo ello reitera la importancia de participar, respetar e interesarse en el otro con tenacidad y generosidad.

¿Qué he aprendido?

Me quedo un poco triste, pensando que únicamente he recordado teorías y prácticas que sabía, en las que creo y que trato de ejercitar continuamente... pero esto no se aprende; se hace, y se sigue haciendo, porque cada circunstancia es nueva y cada relación es nueva. en cada diálogo me descubro de nuevo en un mundo, también, siempre nuevo, donde las personas, cómo no, renacen cada día.

¿Cómo voy a implementar lo que he aprendido?

Seguiré participando en el diálogo, respetando a los demás e interesándome por ellos, expresando con valentía y concreción mi visión de las cosas.

“Change the world”: Book Review

Why did i choose this book?

It’s the second book suggested by the TAE I read. It was in fact the book i wanted to read first. I was struck by the courageous simplicity of the title. Change the world, no more, no less. Of course, start changing yourself. I think it’s a biographical issue. I’ve gone through so many changes in life. Often I refer to my daily basis as swifting from a world into a different one. I have problems to connect the family realm with the job’s activities and relations. The same happens with the African friends and memories, with the group from architecture, who is not similar to the tasks at work, with the “hobby” at dance and theatre, with the Christian commitment, with Germany as a second reference. Changing from frame to frame, like a movie where personal roles are frame specific and often disconnected. The only connexion is always me. And since long, my personal mission of bridging worlds, of setting links between people and activities, of leaving behind a track, of networking task forces.

This is a book addressed to one’s personal change levers and motivations. It is hard on one’s pitfalls and barriers. It’s bold about one’s hypocrisy and misidentification of personal limits. It’s also an exercise book, not just to read, think about it and leave it behind. At least I feel compelled to implement what I’m reading. It can be a self-transformational book.

what is this book about?

It speaks about changing persons. About human growth and transformation both through life’s external changes which have an influence on the subjectivity and internal changes through maturity and commitment to life, which are put into behaviours, relations and actions. It explains a system for first changing oneself and then the surrounding world. It’s called the “advanced change theory”, ACT, a “set of action principles for more effectively introducing change to human systems”.

It speaks about freedom to become one’s highest self-image, and be accountable for it. It brings mature individuals into productive communities where members share a common purpose and work for the benefit of all. It reflects on the nature of hierarchy in order to introduce emergent adhocracy where groups become organisms and the leader is not a ruthless hero but an autothelic ordinary person able to flow with the reality and the persons around.

It starts by looking within oneself and making a fundamental choice for the life’s purpose which has found me. A choice which makes you true to yourself and opens a path of coherence where all you see is part of one large picture. Hypocrisy has then no room and the natural emergence of reality is not blocked by our former lack of integrity, ineffective behaviour, view on persons as things and purposelessness.

Many dilemmas are addressed, like the common good versus personal interest, solved by following the path of collective fulfilment being inner-directed and other-focused, moving on the edge of chaos from cycle to cycle. The dilemma of natural resistance to change is then seen as a feedback loop in which the change agent and the resisting system are joined in creative tension, nearer to reality than ever.

what have i learned?

This book has put together concepts which were separated for me. It serves as a guide through dilemmas in which i find myself deeply involved. This is all compressed into the task of becoming more autothelic, finding the courage to leave behind the script told by outside forces, disciplined by the 4 steps of “appreciative inquiry” (discovery, dream, design and destiny).

If I had any barrier to change and letting go, this books was heard in terms of faithfulness to my own process of unfolding. The core vision is not defined by personal survival, but by belonging to a productive community. Leadership is not fixed by position, but by spontaneous contribution. The state system is not under static equilibrium but under bounded instability. Social movements do not prevent insurgency but enact it. Empowerment is, beyond responsive, self-authorizing. Consciousness is not script driven anymore, but mindful and free. Moral reasoning does not answer to social expectations but to committed universal principles. Sanctions are not responded but transcended. The self is not divided but authentic. Communication of the self does not use symbols but turns oneself into a living symbol. Visions are not imitated and instructed but created and reframed.

All in all I think my sum up is forgetting the question “what do I have to lose?” and allowing myself to flow with reality. Another important point was brought by the “sacred servants” (Ghandi, M.L. King and Jesus of Nazareth), whose actions are used to illustrate the basic teachings of the book. Odd as they can be for today’s iconography, they where my hidden heroes, now to be brought to the front.

how will i implement what i've learned?

It’s not about doing things, it’s about being and becoming. There are a couple of beliefs I must check and transform into acts. I surrender to being a change agent for the growth of the world.

Hoy quería dedicarle este post al trabajo de Ania Bas con Labein-Tecnalia, uno de los más densos en ideas y posibilidades. Tecnalia es una corporación de centros de investigación vascos, de los que van en serio. Trabajan en el sector aeroespacial, de automoción, energia, infotech, medio ambiente urbano e industrial, etc. El concepto a investigar era la creación de un “entorno urbano sostenible” (SUE en inglés o sea, al revés). No está muy claro cómo se relaciona esto con las propuestas de Ania pero me imagino que tiene que ver con trabajar desde lo pequeño: los gestos cotidianos en el trabajo; la manera de estar y de pensarse en un entorno; ver qué se puede conseguir cuando se empiezan a introducir cambios desde el nivel de lo micro.

Con un montón de ayuda he conseguido hacer una primera versión, bastante completa, de las personas y actividades que han participado de una u otra manera en disanialia, el proyecto disonancias de tecnalia con ania bas.

A One-Day Challenge - after the conference

The conference was divided into two parts. The first part consisted of talks by 4 speakers who were introducing various subjects/views/ideas/policies. The second half was run using Open Space Technology (see blow) that was allowing people to share their views and discuss burning from individuals' point of view issues related to the subject of the conference. So it wasn't feeding delegates with the only truth about measuring not measurable. It was a platform to start dialogue about existing ways of measuring creativity and start conversation about other ways.

Open Space Technology and actually introduction to this working method is one of the most interesting things i have learnt during the day!

The final outcomes due to the nature of the working methods are not available on the day. When any gathered information arrives to me I will post it on the blog.

Quick intro to OST:
Open Space Technology (OST)enables groups of any size to address complex, important issues and achieve meaningful results quickly. It functions best where more traditional meeting formats fail: when there is conflict, complexity, diversity of thought or people, and short decision times. It has been used in widely diverse settings, from designing aircraft doors at a large aircraft manufacturing company to engaging street kids in defining a sustainable jobs program.
It is a new and powerful meeting methodology!

Four principles:

Whoever comes are the right people
Whatever happens is the only thing that could have
Whenever it starts is the right time
When it's over, it's over

Discussions take place in designated areas or separate rooms known as 'breakout spaces' and participants are free to move amongst the discussion groups. Each group records the conversations in a form which can be used to distribute or broadcast the proceedings of the meeting (in hard copy, blog, podcast, video, etc). In a multi-day Open Space, participants have the opportunity to announce new discussion topics / late-breaking sessions each new morning. At the end of the day (or 2 days or 2.5 days) the full group reconvenes for comments and reflection. This helps participants to re-engage in the full group over the duration of the meeting.

The "Law of Two Feet" — a foot of passion and a foot of responsibility — expresses the core idea of taking responsibility for what one loves. In practical terms, the law says that if you're neither contributing nor getting value where you are, use your two feet (or available form of mobility) and go somewhere where you can.

People can choose different roles for participation in Open Space meetings:

Host: the person who feels a burning passion for the subject and is willing to take responsibility to call the conversation, invite others in and make sure something gets harvested.
Participant: Anyone who is drawn to a conversation wants to stay the whole time and participate fully.
Bumble bee: The ones who move from conversation to conversation cross-pollinating the learning.
Butterfly: A butterfly may not want to be in any conversation, instead they prefer to sit on the lawn and look beautiful. A new, unexpected conversation may happen when two butterflies meet.

Open Space meetings make the assumption that people who care about the subject will come together. The initial meeting notice takes the form of an invitation, thus the people who have attended have chosen to be there and are willing to contribute. The objectives for the meeting and the time available affect design decisions such as whether action planning is included in the Open Space or not. More info about this method is available on line.

Stevan Vokovic thoughts on collaborative production. (...) He presented five different models of cooperation which question individual behaviour in critical moments, illustrating interdependences, techniques of creating feelings of security or insecurity as well as paradoxical structures of communication: "prisoner's dilemma", "chicken game", "assurance game", "privileged game" and "altruist's game". on working from home

She now works flexibly from home, without external control. She works when she wants to. However, she has to carry out an incalculable amount of work for a fixed fee. This means that she does nothing but work at home and can't relax there any more. The route to the desk to read e-mails at the laptop has become as much of a routine as the way to the kitchen to make coffee.

The total value of the Day = 650 Labanias! (merged value of individual value by 6 people, so 108, 3333333333 - would be the average value)

It was interesting to read through answers and especially look into the middle ground - into categories not with the highest scores, but highly scored by all people who replied.

All valued relatively high in their own Labanias was category 14 - During the event you discovered something new & inspiring about your colleague(s). (42 Labanias in total; highest value 11)

This questions over all was more valued then similar question in relation to a child: Your child during the day discovered her/his new passions/ potentials (39 Labanias in total; highest value 12)

Exactly same value as discovering your children potentials got category number 1 - A person that you did not know well before after the event smiles at you at the corridor. (Highest value: 9, given by 2 people)

I should also mentioned that to original list of 21 questions/categories one person added a new category and rated it highest of all:

I am not a data analyst, I am more data feeler :D but during the project i met people who are competent in this field! And who i hope will share their views of the results.

Imagination Experts Day value - in Labanias

Imagination Experts Day took place at the end of March 2008. 2 months later I decided to check how much the experience is worth! I decided to measure the value of the day using a creative currency: Labanias.

Name of creative currency: Labania

What is it: it is a currency that was created to measure not measurable experiences/actions/benefits/situations.

Strengths and Weaknesses: Each person can rate/value experiences in different way and where for one person a smile might be worth just 1 Labania, for the other person same smile might be worth 5 Labanias. The currency has highly changeable rate and is a very personal one. This is its strength and its weakness.

Labanias cannot be exchanged for real money.

suggested by the TAE, i read this book by Ken Robinson. i'll comment on it following their proposed 4 questions:

Why did i choose this book?
the title is completed with the following comment "learning to be creative". i thought it would not harm me to learn it, how if possible, and, if i was already a little creative, why. this was after i tried to get how to "change the world" (which i have finally managed today).
on the 14.12.07 i chose 6 books from the list the TAE planned to acquire:
1. change the world
2. out of our minds
3. creativity
4. reframing business
5. leading the revolution
6. the innovator's dilemma
although some people say i'm a creative person, i still have doubts. at least, i'm very aware of many times when i act and react pretty conventionally, with no creativity at all. as you see, being and acting creatively is for me a burning issue and i regret being conventional.

what is this book about?
it deals with the dilemma between conventionality and creativity. it explains differents ways in which people are intelligent and use their talents where they work/spend their time. it tells about standard education and social expectiations, which hightlight one type of mental abilities in detriment of others. it helps to recover confidence in everyone's innovative capacities, what makes one reflect deeply into his/her neglected skills and react quickly. it presents a nearby future in which both organizations and personal ongoing formation need plenty of imagination and few automatic responses. it demands from individuals and companies a colective interest on being creative together, interacting and communicating our-selves.

what have i learned?
this is not a specialized book. it speaks about culture, management, art, history, accounts, education, innovation, forecasting, psychology, etc. it does not analyse problems, but deals with personal dilemmas and blockades managers, scientists and artists have on daily routine. i have learned that everyone has at least these three roles, that human intelligence is esentially creative, that we manage it through symbolic representation and that these symbols include words, images, sounds, movements, gestures and other interactive capacities that can change events. i have learned that involving oneself into artistic activities might develop best one's managerial talents than iterating endlessly projectmanagment.

how will i implement what i've learned?
i will appreciate in greater fairness my artistic incursions and not see them just as relax or holiday, but also as work and personal development of the best kind. i will challenge people who argue "i was educated so" and facilitate them to use and enjoy their creative talents. i will support any educational activity which brings forward an integrative thinking and imaginative approach to life.

SUE LAB - third proposal

The third group also decided to build their LAB rather than grow or change already developed ideas. The group started with a long discussion, watching the floor, walls and ceiling of what used to be La Q before I have dismantled it.

The group built a Sustainable Laboratory (not only a laboratory for sustainable urban environment research). Made out of various elements and inspiring people who are going to work there to not only work but also live in a sustainable way. Your work style is your lifestyle. Your colleagues are your friends.

Another conclusion and selling sentences was: This is a space that adapts to your needs!
Is it enough to make your life sustainable?

Some of the ideas of the group:
- water in the lab should be coming from the humidity (re-using!)
- the lab should be powered by solar panels and solar re-charge area has been incorporated into the lab
- the space has a rubber floors (not sure about rational behind it. is there any? or was it done for aesthetics reasons? - group - please comment!)

- workplaces are shared and people are not attached to one working area
- tables/walls are portable and adaptable to the needs of workers
- space included spaces where one could reflect (MOMENTO ZEN) as well walk while thinking and developing new ideas (quote: a place to move without any other distractions; protected, no photos, no air-conditioning, no people)
- shower (called detox chamber) - for those who arrived to work on bikes and would like to refresh themselves. (the bike park is also included)

- no clothing restrictions (ties allowed?)
- vegetable patch and flower patch alongside with cooking area
- sea nearby (or swimming pool in the worst case scenario)
- personal conversation area (for 2 or 3 people to solve personal conflicts) - area without chairs, open, allowing people to move and express themselves in a free way

Ania during lunchtime had a chat with people who haven’t participated in the dynamics but have seen the space. They called visual outcomes of all 3 sessions looking as: ' an after earthquake mess'.

Who knows, maybe coming up with new ideas requires mess?

SUE LAB - second proposal

The group that participated in the second dynamic said that the first proposal did not look as a laboratory and started from the scratch.

The main concept of the space: the floor is your table. Floor would work as an interactive surface or one could project on the floor from multiple projectors suspended from the ceiling. In order to view large-scale projections the group proposed a balcony - as a viewing space.

All resources necessary for work should be hidden inside the floor: one can open parts of the floor to access storage area. If you need to have a meeting in the room and want to sit, again within the floor where could be hidden corridors with comfy sits. All one needs to do is to open the right part of the floor to access sitting areas. The walls of the room should be both portable and deformable and flexible and comfy so you could i.e. rest your elbows on them while standing by the wall.

For this group the laboratory would be a place to analyse existing components and challenge current thinking; search for new solutions and alternatives but also this could be a show space (show room) to visualise future, present projects outcomes and share knowledge.

He oído que en el comedor tendremos como mantelitos el dibujo ganador en el
"concurso" ese que hicisteis. Lo he visto y quiero manifestar mi más
absoluto rechazo. La censura ya acabó, en ese dibujo no están las
protuberancias que le hicieron ganador (porque no creo que haya sido por el
gordo durmiente).

Además de hacernos pensar, pues también disfrutar, no?

Una pena no poder disfrutar de dichas protuberancias pero he preferido
evitar la posibilidad de que parte de la sección femenina de esta nave
comentara con tono disgustado que haber quien era el “cerdo” ese que dibuja

En cualquier caso, os prometo dibujar un par de razones como las que
aparecían en el mantel en la fachada principal del edificio para alegraos

Buenas tresena,

Estoy de acuerdo con lo que escribís aunque existen ciertos aspectos de los
que discrepo.

En mi opinión, dibujar un par de pechos no es sinónimo de transgresión
(mirar la Venus de Milo y veréis como no os sentís transgredidos). Había
además manteles mucho más transgresores y cargados de mensaje que el mió y
no fueron elegidos. Creo que el único motivo por el cual mi dibujo fue
elegido es la caricatura del Gernika y no por los pechos (los cuales eran
perfectamente prescindibles).

En cualquier caso, me quedo con la recomendación de Gorka a nivel artístico
para futuros “proyectos” personales que no laborales (según mi experiencia
de Medico, transgresión en el trabajo es sinónimo de conflicto, no nos
engañemos).

During ongoing reserach on Sustainable Urban Environment Model (SUE M) came up an idea that maybe what is need is not a Model but Laboratory. The aim of the dynamic is to develop this Lab & look into ways how it can be introduce as a working space in Labein.

The first dynamic has happened today!

Suggested Lab space seems to be quite traditional. It consists of many elements of traditional working environment such as: a desk (but mobile), a computer and storage space (again on the wheel). Innovations? A portable large board that would allow you to draw/stick/pin your ideas to it and see your thinking process in a larger scale. And... introducing terrace where one could move the necessary equipment and enjoy working outdoors (umbrellas, sockets, light and easy to move equipment...). A! The need to have more intimate working spaces so inspirations come to mind also has been mentioned.

Two more dynamics are going to take place tomorrow but you are already welcome to comment, suggest, improve... Pop in to La Q if you would like to CHANGE existing first arrangement!

switch on blue-sky thinking - the new meeting space

Blue-sky meeting space is a new DisANIAlia intervention.
The pilot project will take place between 12th and 16th May.

All Labein is invited to use a new meeting space created on Level 4 balcony (it will be possible to book the space for meeting via the system) and a rest space on Level 3 garden.

Balcony and the garden have always been there as an oasis during lunch & coffee breaks - spaces to stretch legs, drink coffee and have a very informal chat.
During the weeklong intervention we propose to use the space as a new meeting place. Why not to discuss your project outside? Why not to be inspired by the blue sky and Derio-scape? You will be able to book balcony on Level 4 for your meeting that can accommodate between 2 and 7 people.

Chairs are going to be introduced on Level 3 garden as well, for those who would like to sit while enjoying their break.

12 hours long working days (I was ruthless and we worked during lunch breaks and dinners)
3 guided tours (around BedZED, EcoHouse, Ludlow, Craven Arms and Bishop’s Castle) and 1 self guided tour around Brock Hill in 2 groups (Borja preferred to visit the location on his own…)
13 great people met on the way (some of them are chairmen…)
7 postcards sent as a memory of the tour (I was actually testing a new evaluation tool)
10 minutes long performance on the graves in front of the Abbey in Shrewsberry (the town has been re-named during evening walk)
1 nasty cold brought back home (and I have managed to develop into something a bit more serious – 7 days on antibiotics! ouch … but i am back! )

On wed (16.04.08) morning, FE, IR, AB and me visited the exhibition at the Sommerset House. It shows activities carried in a London area to raise awareness about environmental planning initiatives. It has an appealing presentation designed to bring the visitors nearer from the experience of developing the city under such principles. I don’t see contents that I have not seen before, but they touch my emotions. Discussing about the relative importance of integrating all aspects of sustainability, FE stresses the risk of remaining at the surface of technological possibilities while I think we have not reached real integration yet.

In the afternoon we visited the BedZED, which I had been promoting the last three years. It’s clean and well marketed. Visiting the house makes me feel I could happily live there, but the absence of community life and the sincere limitations in environmental and water as well as public space matters make me think it can be done much better. On the other hand, the value of the built experience is worth the visit, makes the effort of realization closer to my possibilities.

On thu morning AB, IR and me visited the Ecohouse, where a very detailed explanation brought a big contrast to the rather poor one we got at the BedZED. Local, low profiled, self-made permacultural and landscaping experiences were beautifully brought together at a small scale, with refurbishment solutions and a clear educational commitment. As a result, the place makes sense and shows a humble but very positive output.

On the afternoon we went to the Brocks hill centre, made for demonstration purposes. It includes an outstanding bioclimatic design and many appliances to gain energy from all renewable resources. Very children friendly, nice café and several meeting facilities with a wide and general programme. A huge park around with exploring games and forestry and gardening recovery activities. Places for bird and landscape watching. Actually, beautiful, but makes you wonder if such investment is worth.

On the show room of the center we did several dynamics to fix priorities among vectors of sustainability and get their inner connections. Using the brain, but also the body and the senses, we gave colours, forms, emotions and weight to the vectors. One was left as we run sort of time: governance. On the following night I had a dream: the walls of a church were decorated with frescoes explaining the vectors and its content. It was displayed a bit as a via crucis, esthetically appealing, balanced, integrated in the built space. Then time started running and age came to the walls and frescoes. Coatings and support materials cracked and got stained and dirty. Repairs were done more or less gently. Type fonts were substituted and some of the vectors were changed in place or words. Rust and dust and decay came upon them until you couldn’t read last two, community and sustainability. And temporary posters were hanged over the originals, printed in ordinary paper, tasteless but recovering the message.

We had travelled to Shrewsbury, where we enjoyed dinner at an Indian restaurant. We packed early to Ludlow, were Colin Richards was expecting us at the conservation office of South Shropshire county.

Fri morning was spent chatting with him about their experiences involving community in heritage management. This was coupled with environmental care and local economic promotion. We had a walk to see these effects on the place and the people and impressions showed a healthy life up there. Urban set up was fantastic and nature around even better. Social life seemed vibrant and both traditions and innovation alive. We also talked about our jobs and how to exchange knowledge and vision and empower people through best practices. After meeting several chairmen of the most varied associations we came back to the office and pick the planning officer for a visit outside. In the pic, how to put a modern toilet inside a VXI century church.

The afternoon took us to three sustainable developments: Craven arms, Bishops Castle and the Living village. Each one surpassed the former visits in terms of its effects on quality of life and resulting life style. Scale and approach was closer and closer to the persons living there and care of the built and natural environment more and more effective.

Craven arms is a 20 social ecohousing project, very blue and simple, affordable and immediate, without great ambitions, next to the train station, for the workers of the area. Is not specially nice looking nor extremely energy efficient, but it gains warmth, light and electricity from the sun and allows a very low carbon life style. It works.

The living village is a private initiative slowly growing to 50 units in a lovely hilly set up, with shared allotments and public spaces. Building standards are very high but well balanced, not technology driven, but rather common sense and focused on the comfort of the residents. Still, their complain is complicated maintenance. It felt cousy and homely, familiar, free, healthy, effective. We even had the luck to meet Bob the foreman who talked about values and ethos.

IG and me said farewell to AB on her train to Southhampton as we headed back to London. On the train we still finished the homework we had started at the cafe on the M&S: what we have done and how did it feel.

Beautiful trip. Intense. Enriching.

Outcomes of February "Dynamics":

All the reason why we DO WANT SUE M (Sustainable Urban Environment Model)

A model is useful as a reference for us to know where should we move forward; it doesn’t mean that we must copy it.
We can change ourselves as we build up the model.
We can provide the world with added value and not just benefit for the companies.
The world is strained and worn out.
It is necessary to know, measure and quantify the economic, social end environmental reality in order to be able to manage and guide global development efficiently.
With a SUEM we can touch sustainability.
We need to grant the feasibility of the project.
It is possible today to plan and understand the complexity inherent to the city before building it up; think more, build less!
Because of health reasons.
It’s a tool for understanding, explaining and representing the idea of sustainable urban… It’s something difficult to represent, but a representation (maybe mental) is necessary to understand and create.
With a SUEM we can include participatory means.
There’s business opportunity.
We are not happy with our current environment.
It can bring more equality within the “rich” society & toward the “poor” countries; & future generations can see nature/earth as we do.
We can understand urban system dynamics.
It will provide us with a model to work together in a powerful & sustainable way & it doesn’t exist yet, so let’s innovate and create it.
We can help new generations to have a better environment & give something back to society.
It can gather all necessary info & data in order & systematically arrange everything to get results.
It’s a good beginning, a good framework and maybe also a good conclusion.
It can make visible and concrete our goals.
We talk a lot about innovation and creativity & this is a chance to do as we preach; therefore we need it to be coherent.
We are trying to be part on that “change of mind” of the urban concept where sustainable & environment take part of it.

All the good reasons why we DO NOT NEED SUE M (Sustainable Urban Environment Model)

Because:
We are hypocrites: we cannot talk about sustainability if we don’t put it into practice afterwards.
There is an alternative.
One generic model cannot be used in all possible situations; many SUEMs are needed!
We need to think in other alternatives (open mind to…)
We don’t want to create “SuDonalds” (like Sustainability McDonalds)
I’m not sure if a model is a beginning or an end.
There already exist real SUEs that can act as a model; we need to build up more real SUEs.
It needs a high expenditure and investment.

Is there an alternative? YES:

REALITY.
Stopping all kinds of development, assuming its consequences, and returning to a live style based on the immediate available resources without technology.
SUE –guidelines, ideas, brainstorming.
Forget about models; build real prototypes.
Promote social consciousness.
Take the components of the urban system and work them separately

evaluación proyecto a mitad de camino

Antes de que Ania nos envíe un resumen tipo (24+12+98+4433+7=8976) ;-) me adelanto para hacer constar oficialmente que el proyecto está dando respuesta a los plazos tal y como estaba previsto.

el viernes de 12:00 a 15:00 hicimos la evaluación de las actividades de la semana, las acciones que se desarrollaron desde la anterior visita y las interacciones y sinergias con los otros equipos que toman parte en esta edición.

AB, IR, FE y BI observamos el calendario (equivalente a un PDP) que hicimos al comienzo del proyecto y, efectivamente, estamos en el momento previsto: los que participasteis en el test de los primeros prototipos de SUEM pudisteis observar que ya tenemos todos los datos para decidir el aspecto y alcance que tendrá el Modelo de entorno urbano sostenible que era el objetivo a desarrollar formando parte de disonancias. Ania está procesando estos tests; la semana que viene tenemos una reunión y visita de personas y entornos relevantes y, con todos los datos sobre la mesa, decidiremos cómo empieza a tomar forma el SUEM.

También acogimos a los otros equipos de esta edición de Disonancias y evaluamos con todos ellos y los evaluadores externos, la evolución de los procesos colaborativos en cada tandem y entre ellos. Las personas que subisteis a las salas Olabeaga pudisteis ver cómo algunos proyectos tienen relaciones muy claras, bien en la temática, bien en los tipos de procesos, bien en los retos y opciones que se están planteando. Pues nuestro proyecto también avanza satisfactoriamente de acuerdo a la promotora del programa y a los otros partners empresa-artista.

Comentamos con especial interés el impacto que tuvo la jornada con los expertos en imaginación. Nuestro principal interés no consiste en la respuesta mediática que suscitó ni en cuantificar su impacto en términos de beneficios o ingresos colaterales. Más bien los criterios de valoración han sido:

la capacidad de demostrar la creatividad, pasión y habilidades divulgativas de los campos de aplicación que interaccionaron con los niños;
la flexibilidad y apertura de toda la plantilla, que disfrutó dando la bienvenida a un evento que podría haberse considerado molesto y extaño, y
las reflexiones que ha provocado esta acción en los procesos, objetivos y visión de los campos de aplicación involucrados.

También tomamos nota de las debilidades, críticas y cuestiones que continúan abiertas. ¿Qué es disonancias? sigue sin estar claro para muchas personas y la conexión entre el programa y algunas de las actividades tampoco. En el mes de mayo habrá acciones encaminadas a resolver definitivamente esta cuestión y a plantear como seguir después de la entrega del proyecto.

El pasado 2 de abril tuvo lugar el encuentro de todos los participantes en esta edición de Disonancias. 40 personas de 9 empresas y 9 equipos de artistas, además de los organizadores y los evaluadores del proyecto, nos reunimos en las salas Olabeaga para compartir cómo van cada una de las colaboraciones a mitad de camino. En todos los casos han aparecido diferencias entre los modos introducidos por los artistas y los hábitos empresariales, pero también en todos los casos los beneficios de la innovación superan a los conflictos.

Durante toda la mañana se presentaron los proyectos. La metodología de trabajo tenía el título “las buenas ideas de mi vecino”, y permitió la transferencia de experiencias y valores entre todos los participantes. Estos son los siguientes:

1. Dorlet / Álvaro Castro & Fran Gallardo. Multimedia aplicada a la domótica. Están programando espacios tridimensionales para controlar dispositivos urbanos por medio de acelerómetros o visual tracking. Izkara, Mediavilla, TAE… a lo mejor os interesa.

2. EiTB / Victor Iriarte. Documentación. Blog. CD, Mirenlur… a lo mejor os interesa.

3. Fundación Ikertia / Cuantics Creatives. Emergencia sanitaria en espacios públicos. Diego Soroa está aumentando el papel social de los individuos contribuyendo con el bienestar y la sostenibilidad de las ciudades. Isabel, Feliú, Usobiaga… a lo mejor os interesa.

4. Grupo Sarkis Lagunketa / Daniela Bershan. Integra organismos que responden activamente a situaciones de humedad y radiación solar en fachadas. Campos, Chica, Erkizia, Mendizabal… a lo mejor os interesa.

5. Imar / ReD, Research + Design, Lda. Aplicaciones para chapa perforada y metal expandido. Bea, LeireV, Jimbert… a lo mejor os interesa.

6. Lanik / Recetas Urbanas (Santiago Cirugeda +). Estructuras metálicas espaciales ocupadas por espacios habitables. Espada, Fran, Sergio… a lo mejor os interesa.

7. Lantegi Batuak / AMASTÉ. Espacios de relación con el entramado social para personas discapacitadas. Accesibilidad, RRHH y ergonomía a lo bestia. Egusquiza, Zior, LuisD… a lo mejor os interesa.

8. Polo Garaia / Mariano Maturana & Consol Rodríguez. Servicios que apoyen la conexión y la colaboración entre los usuarios del Polo de innovación. Blog. Territorios inteligentes en Mondragón. Ugalde, Egus, JuanP… a lo mejor os interesa.

9. Tecnalia / Ania Bas. Modelo de entorno urbano sostenible. Blog. No comment.

Por la tarde se reflexionó sobre las culturas empresariales, la libertad y la responsabilidad personal y profesional, la innovación y los escenarios laborales previsibles a medio plazo. Superintendente innovador y Amatxu disonante estuvieron ayer comprobando las infraestructuras para la reunión de todas las empresas y artistas aqui el próximo 2 de abril. Tuvimos una conversación sobre la marcha de nuestro proyecto de colaboración con Ania. En las demás entradas del blog se ven las acciones y reacciones que suscita este proyecto dentro de Labein, pero hablamos también de lo que no se ve: los científicos críticos, la hipótesis de un conflicto, dónde se percibe necesidad de ayuda, las limitaciones de la cultura corporativa y el significado de éxito y fracaso.

Como este blog es también un diario del desarrollo del proyecto, hay que destacar que estamos casi a mitad de camino y que se han dado aprox 600 interacciones personales motivadas por el proyecto. De hecho prácticamente todo el personal lo conoce en mayor o menor medida. Para todos está abierta la posibilidad de asomar la cabeza en las salas Olabeaga durante el encuentro del 2 de abril; se presentarán los nueve tandems empresa-artista y el estado de sus proyectos.

El modelo de entorno urbano sostenible no se está haciendo esperar, está madurando al ritmo de las dinámicas colaborativas de Ania y gracias al entusiasmo de los 32 aliados, los proyectos y equipos que están aportando conocimiento y el ambiente laboral tan tolerante que construimos entre todos. Más que antes, os animo a seguir de cerca los siguientes pasos, especialmente del 28 al 3 de abril y, a partir de mayo el germen de SUEM (como dice Ania) que empiece a nacer.

Being part of Disonancias Team means that you are also invited to be a TEST group to test some project ideas and share outcomes!

You are invited to TEST ONE PROJECT a MONTH.

This Month (February) you can take part in a pioneering project looking into new working methods! You are invited to work just for one hour away from the computer and phone between 18th and 22nd February and document and share the outcomes of this experiment and learn from it.

Why?

1. To try and test alternative ways of approaching our daily tasks!

2. To look for new, refreshing ways of approaching same daily tasks. Be more creative and adventurous in your work and fight stale working habits.

Who knows what might be the final outcome!

Proposed Rules:

- 1 h away from the computer and phone during the week

- the hour can be chosen by each Disonacias Team Member individually
(it is not fixed hour during the week for all members)

- the alternative way of working needs to be documented as i.e. a picture, a drawing, an essay, a spreadsheet - or anything else. It will be shared with Labein community via the Disonancias blog http://disanialia.blogspot.com/

If the project's outcomes will be positive who knows, maybe the initiative will be implemented across Labein!

Karmele's model is exploring three vectors of sutainability: community, governance and quality of life.

Quality of life:
“a reasonable globally-oriented wellbeing, committed with the changing needs of persons and places, promoting a conscious culture, a moderated consume and a welcoming tolerance”

Governance:
“decentralized power relations managed to give citizens capabilities to take decisions at all levels, integrating the public and the private realm, reaching even the weakest citizens”

Community:
“a neighbourhood-scale, rich in relations, mixed, diverse, interdependent, networked with other communities, belonging to a local culture, rooted in its heritage and at the service of coming generations”

Energetic efficiency according to Kiko

Kiko looked at the box with stationary and rearranged all objects inside it. You can see the final arrangement on the picture. He explained that this is the energetic efficiency for this box, an order of all elements that will ensure the best use of energy, my energy or other people's energy while using the objects from the box. I have to admit that the box returned to 'the total chaos state' the next day:(

Energetic efficiency:
“an efficient functioning of infrastructures and urban services, saving energy, and conscious of the embedded energy of all its objects, systems and processes; sensitive to the way it is used, intelligently distributed and controlled by the final user”

Como ya sabéis, la colaboración de Ania entre nosotr@s está facilitada por el programa Disonancias, en el que participan otros 8 tándems empresa-artista.

After a long time thinking about what I culd do with this marvellous cacharro, and after these last busy weeks, I ve decided to build a Time Reservation Tickets for Labein Staff!!

Explanation: this is like a butcher's shop: when you need to talk to someone what you need to have is a ticket in order to book that one's time. There is one copy for the Time Owner and another for the Time Borrower.... Sometimes you may not find free time till hours later... So, before going to the fruit shop, go first to get your ticket in the butcher's shop.... ;)
